Tony Tuayerin, Bayelsa state-based Kung-Fu-Wushu Coach, has urged state associations to take advantage of the featuring of the sport in the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) to raise its profile.
Kung-Fu-Wushu was part of the 37 sports featured at the 19th NSF held in Abuja in December 2018.
Tuayerin told NAN on Monday that the associations should organise more competitions and seminars that would feature the sport to develop athletes and technical officials.
“The NSF is the most famous sporting event in the country; it has created a friendly platform for athletes to be showcased and discovered for international championships.
“Kung-Fu-Wushu was featured and medals won; so, it behooves on states through their associations to draw up activities and ensure that the sport gets more recognition.
“With increased activities, athletes will be meaningfully engaged and developed,” he said.
He added that the Nigeria Wushu Kung-Fu Federation should encourage the associations by ensuring that national championships were organised quarterly.
According to him, the steps will go a long way to facilitate development of the sport across the country and acquaint practitioners with competition rules.
