AWCON: Super Falcons arrive Cape Coast, ready for Bayana Bayana

African Women Cup of Nations defending champions, Super Falcons have arrived in Cape Coast , Ghana where they will tackle South Africa’s Bayana Bayana in Sunday’s opening game of the 2018 AWCON.

Propped up by a week intensive training in Cote ‘d Ivoire, the Super Falcons according to coach Thomas Dennerby, are ready to battle the oppositions and win first of all, a ticket to the 2019 FIFA Women World Cup in France.

Speaking on their chances former youth internationals Chinwendu Ihezuo and Christy Oheriaeku expressed their readiness to help the team to a successful defence of the title they won in Cameroon.

“It’s an honour to make the final squad to the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, I will do my best in Ghana,” Ihezuo said.

“I am looking forward to performing better in the national team and showing the stuff I am made of. As a striker, what matters is to score and that was my prayer before the game.

“It feels very great to be in the Super Falcons since playing at the U17 and U20 level and, a privilege I thank God for, and Nigerians for the support.”
Ohiaeriaku added:

“I was part of the 2014 campaign in Namibia, where we won the title and also the last World Cup in Canada. It was an unforgettable experience, even though could not play, I learned a lot.”
