PORT HAR-COURT— Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has promised victims of flood disaster in River State that the Federal Government would not abandon them.
Osinbajo, who visited the flood-ravaged areas in Ahoada West Local Government Area, LGA, of the state, described the situation in the area as a massive disaster.
The Vice President, who was received and taken to the affected communities by the Chairman of the Ahoada West LGA, Mr. Hope Ikiriko, said the government would do everything to resettle residents of the area after the flooding.
Osinbajo also promised that the government would work towards dredging a river in the area to reduce the impact of its surge in the communities.
He said: “We have seen first hand how bad the damage is. Many homes are underwater, farmlands and businesses are also affected. It is a massive disaster indeed and the Federal Government will intervene immediately
“First, we thank God that everyone is alive. It is the duty of the federal and state government to ensure that those affected are assisted.
“On behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, on whose instructions I am here, we will stand by you and make sure we provide what you need.”
