Saturday, March 18th 2018:–>A day I can NEVER forget hurriedly in my life.
I went to Ikeja computer village to repair my laptop on the 18th of March 2018. On completion of my mission I got to the bus / stop (The train station way) to enter a bus back to Sango Ota, but due to the expensive bus price and bad whether condition, I rushed to enter a bus along the road with other long awaited Passenger at the cost of 400 naira, immediately i made my way into the bus, the conductor started making an announcement to everyone to be careful of their phones while rushing, I barely got on a seat when I checked my pocket, Alas my phone is gone!!!
I came down from the bus, very confused, people helped me call my number but unfortunately after 2 trials from people my number went switched off.
I was very sad and after 30 minutes I entered another bus
On 19th March 2018, I kept trying the number, it was ringing but the person refused to pick the call. After so many trials and text messages, I concluded it had been stolen and that I had to let go.
On getting back to the office at Ibadan on 20th Mar 2018, I connected my laptop to the internet to message people through my slack account around 11:00PM, Then I received a debit alert notification from my email address, I was surprised of USSD Airtime DEBIT ALERT!
I opened my mail and found out that on just four transactions all my money in Access bank Account was gone, and the last transaction left my account from 17,855 naira with just 145 naira, I couldn’t even control the tears that dropped from my eyes.
I chatted with the Access bank Online Customer care that midnight to freeze my account which they did after so much delay, I didn’t have any phone on me to have called them.
It was after these freezing of my account and continued chat with the customer care that I was ask to verify my other accounts if I had any. Then I remembered my GTbank Account. I opened my email address for GTbank and I found out from 125,000 naira I had just 16,000 naira left, I saw all the debit transactions alert. I chatted with the Gtbank Online Customer care that midnight to freeze my account too.
Now I realized I was really dammed. From both banks I have been debited a total of 135,000 naira as airtime just within 20 hours!!!
Very early on Monday 20th March 2018. I went to the banks to complain but unfortunately they couldn’t do anything because the DEBITED AMOUNT WAS TRANSFERRED TO MY PHONE NUMBER AS AN AIRTIME!!!
I went straight to MTN Office here in Idi-ape junction, Ibadan. I blocked my number and retrieved it, and I found out I had a balance of 31,000 naira left on my phone number as an Airtime!. I complained to the Customer Care representative that attended to me and i explained the whole scenario but after so many unnecessary questions, he went for like 30 mins and came back only to tell me that the phone number my 100,000 naira plus was transferred to is NOT TRACEABLE.
I kept quiet for more than a week as I didn’t know what to do next but three working days ago, I was In a conversation with a colleague, read a similar post about it on nairaland.com and I got an idea about how to get my money back.
After this Easter holiday, I will continue my ‘GET MY MONEY BACK’ journey and I will update you about the steps I took to successfully get my money back.
